Comments (0) Best New Talk Radio Station (AM) - 2006
The Quake
In the late '80s the Quake was the name of a cutting-edge FM station that broke local and national treasures in the burgeoning alternative rock scene. That station dissolved right around the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake, leaving the airwaves unrumbled for years. Now the name is back, representing our new affiliate station for Air America, the national "progressive talk radio" giant. The Quake's program schedule is largely comprised of nationally syndicated shows from people like comedians Janeane Garofalo and Al Franken and stalwart leftist host Randi Rhodes. But Keepin' It Real With Will & Willie (hosted by Will Durst and Willie Brown, see Best Morning Radio Show, page 145) couldn't be more San Francisco, and goes a long way toward keeping a balance in the programming. Mercifully, we don't get exposed to every show Air America has to offer; otherwise, we might have to deal with Jerry Springer on the dial.
