Mount Sutro
This is a lovely, out-of-the-way place to stroll anytime, but it transforms with a little weather. Why? It's the eucalyptus trees. Just find a spot to park on Belgrave Avenue (a short road on top of the hill behind UCSF Medical Center) and take your choice among the several intersecting trails including a few of the pig-trail variety that lead up the fragrant slopes. (We recommend taking a detailed map of the city along; it'll come in handy when you want to orient yourself to what you'll see via Mount Sutro's excellent vistas.) And as long as you're up there, you may want to trek to the east end of Belgrave and catch the marked trail heading up to nearby Tank Hill. Despite the ever-popular Twin Peaks nearby, Tank Hill offers panoramic city views that are second to none. Either way, breathe deeply and enjoy.
