Gary Radnich
The ever-popular Radnich, 56, who earned his playing chops as a UNLV basketball player during his college days (he was also a young play-by-play announcer for the Ohio State Buckeyes for a time during the Woody Hayes era), is the dean of Bay Area sports broadcasters, having been at KRON-TV (Channel 4) for 21 years. Famous for intentionally showing up on the news set at the last moment (to help keep his largely ad-libbed daily sports shows spontaneous), Radnich has recently been allowed to branch out beyond sports and pontificate about almost anything on his mind, as part of his "The World According to Gary" segment on the 9 p.m. newscast. His gentle (and often hilarious) put-downs of fellow on-air personalities, station management, himself, and even sponsors makes watching him fun for those of us who don't like everything scripted. Mainly, though, we like Radnich because he knows sports. And he should: Besides the TV gig, he hosts a weekday morning call-in show for hard-core sports fans on KNBR-AM 680.

i am completly offended that sports illistrated went out of their way to put 3 san francisco icons (bary bonds , golden gate brige, and giants symbol) on the cover of their magzine and then say that 2 former giants and a current giant are the top three least favored baseball players in the legue. i am embaresed, offended, and enraged that they would do somthing like this. please e-mail me back with your opinion

Gary Radnich is a rude, offensive jerk. I feel so sorry for Katherine Heenan. The way he puts her down is totally stupid and childish. A few weeks ago he put her down about her wearing jeans and tonight it was because she had eaten garlic and he had to move away because of her breath. What an idiot!! Maybe he should lose a few pounds and quit wearing his Century 21 jacket. If he looked in the mirror once in awhile, maybe he wouldn't be so quick to embarrass others. Just makes him look more of an ass than he is and that's pretty hard. You've lost me and more viewers than you know by having his arrogance and ignorance of it continue to offend a large part of your viewing audience.Thanks for listening
