First off, Grooves Inspiralled Vinyl — that white building with all the candy-colored albums hanging in the windows sitting just around the corner from It's Tops Coffee Shop — is not a used record store dedicated exclusively to world music. It peddles all kinds of styles: rock, jazz, classical, comedy, blues, soundtracks, folk, electronic, as well as "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender." But now that eBay has helped to inflate prices for used records — even fairly easy-to-find artifacts — we've been forced to start collecting music in genres whose LPs are still affordable. That's where world music comes in, and Grooves, where you can sample prospective purchases in a leisurely manner, has tons of it. And it's cheap, too! From Lyrichord's 1968 classic Yugoslav Folk Music to choice Jacques Brel sides to Ocora's Gabon — Music of the Bibayak Pygmies, this fine little platter shack is full of them wicked-sweet international jams.
