Rock band publicity shots are all pretty much the same, including the ever popular "up against a brick wall, no one looking at the camera, and the cute one in the middle" types. Local photographer Jeremy Harris tries to bring bands out of these pedestrian ruts, photographing everyone from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes to Fall Out Boy with an eye toward innovation. "It's not easy," he says, admitting that most bands don't want to mess around with new ideas when they are dealing with publicity photos. Still, his work has transcended the norm, and publications like Kerrang! frequently feature his work. Aside from band pics, he recently showed a series of photographs taken in abandoned state hospitals throughout California, which were surprisingly not creepy. In fact, they are quite beautiful. If only we could say the same for Fall Out Boy.
