Balboa Cafe
The Balboa Cafe, situated in the Marina District, is one pillar of the neighborhood's "Triangle" of popular bars on the corners of Fillmore and Greenwich Streets. The Cafe offers upscale American grub, a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere, televised sports, and a long wooden bar with its own appetizer menu and smattering of post-work young corporate types. Beware, young male prepsters: This corner is also known to some as the "Bermuda Triangle" for its cadre of "cougars"—older ladies with a taste for barely legal ass. The Cafe is also something of a historical landmark. Until recently, Mayor Gavin Newsom could often be spotted alone at the bar, chatting on his RAZR (or SLVR, who knows), and guzzling one of the restaurant's 92 bottled offerings. This is, indeed, the best place in the city to participate in a pastime reserved for only San Francisco's classiest alcoholics. So order a bottle of sauvignon blanc, grab a cellphone, and settle in at the bar for a long night of drunk dialing or hot action with somebody's mom.
