Nestled among the warehouses of 14th Street is everything you need to flavor a flounder, bouquet a bureau, season a stew, soothe a stomach, maybe even cure the common cold. Since 1973, the San Francisco Herb Co. has been providing freshly packaged, top-grade herbs and spices to a discerning clientele at bargain prices. Entering this tiny storefront is a musky, fragrant, eye-opening experience: One-pound cellophane bags of twigs, roots, ferns, buds, seeds, leaves, flowers, and cones line the walls, and there's more than just parsley, sage, rosemary and astralagus root among the 400-plus offerings: chapparal leaf, white willow bark, ponderosa cones, 18-inch cinnamon sticks, and Spanish saffron at $70 an ounce are as close as the warehouse out back. In addition to the herbs and spices (available by the sack or wholesale), the establishment sells blends, extracts, and a wide array of oils (gardenia, honeysuckle, and wisteria among them) as well as vials, filters, muslin sacks, spice jars, mortars and pestles — all the necessities for pie, poultice, and potpourri alike.

Shirley Montanya , owner of the Little Red Hen herbal store in Goldendale, Washington has closed her store as she is undergoing treatment for cancer. Shirley stated she had been ordering one-pound bags of yew bark from San Francisco Herb Company and suggested I order yew bark directly from San Francisco Herb Company. I need to know the price of a one-pound bag (or lesser quantity. I have the Company's address and plan to send a Money Order with my order for yew bark. Shirley, I work for the San Francisco Herb Company in San Francisco and we do not sell Yew Bark. I believe the Little Red Hen was buying from the San Francisco Herb and Natural Food Co on Fremont California, a completely different company, but they are under a embargo and are not shipping product.
