As the name implies, this, well, taqueria forgoes the frills you might find at the Mission's other Mexican hot spots to focus on the heart of the burrito, the meat. It's reminiscent of the style favored in that little border town called San Diego. Gone is the rice, and with it options like spinach tortillas and refried black beans. The meat is the star, and La Taqueria has got the meat right. The carne asada, or grilled steak, is deservedly regarded by regulars as the best the city has to offer — succulent, perfectly seasoned, and without that salt-lick after-burn of other fast-food Mexican places. With so much love poured into the meat, the tacos are actually more popular than the burritos, but both options — which, aside from quesadillas, are La Taqueria's only options — will leave a meat lover's mouth happy and satisfied.
