You have your choice of two spaces at this modest, family-run spot in the Marina: a front room with a bar and simple modern wood tables, or a large homey heated patio out back, which is our preference. But in either room you'll be served simple, tasty French fare made with fresh ingredients (farmers' markets are visited thrice weekly) and well priced (starters under $10, main courses under $20, and a two-course prix-fixe for $19.95, offered Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday). You'll see families enjoying burgers for the kids and steak frites for the grown-ups. Every dish is accompanied by appropriate and different sides: Juicy grilled lamb might come with a cheesy potato gratin and fresh spinach saut?ed with plenty of garlic, while the roast chicken is matched with steamed baby red potatoes and perfectly cooked thin haricots verts. Starters range from big bright salads to duck confit served atop stewed lentils. And Bistro Aix is justly proud of its reasonably priced wine list, offering 130 bottles and more than 20 wines served by the glass.
