Forever 21
We'll still cruise the racks at Claire's and H&M, but our heart belongs to the amazing accessory displays at Forever 21, specifically those found at the flagship store, located in an architecturally impressive building downtown built as a bank in 1921. If you see something you like among the baubles and trinkets, grab it: It may not be here tomorrow, as stock cycles in and out daily. Prices range from $2.80 (for earrings) and rarely top $10. Solid-colored plastic fakelite bangles start at a few bucks and look just like the ones going for $30 at Banana Republic (or several hundred at Chanel, without, of course, the interlocked Cs that bump up the asking price). Fancier striped and dotted bracelets range up to $5.80. (There's a certain cognitive dissonance with the fancy surroundings, featuring dazzling black-and-white marble floors and crystal chandeliers.) Rhinestones, leather, crystals, chains, sculpted metal there's something for everyone (unless, alas, you don't have pierced ears). And caveat emptor: All jewelry purchases are final sale no returns. But at these prices, why worry?
