OK, so the guy is not sexy or suave. He looks like a plump systems engineer from Middle America who'd vote Republican. But this is radio, so what do we care if KGO's Bernie Ward isn't a looker. If you can sit tight through sermon-like pauses (he used to be a priest) that last so long you end up tapping the radio to see if you lost the signal, you're in for a program where he lives up to his cheesy moniker "The Lion of the Left." On one show, he criticizes KGO's own Ronn Owens for "leading cheers and doing flip flops to get us into the war" in Iraq. In a debate on MSNBC last summer, he clobbered conservative talk show host Chris Baker over whether the government should be able to censor the press in wartime to the point that Baker disconnected his microphone and fled the set. Bernie is a dweeb, all right. But he packs a punch.

Bernie [and Ray T.] have courageously and damn- consistently focused their lasers on the illegal and odious Cheney-Bush Administration for 6 verrrrry long and destructive years.

The MSM radio waves exude the putrid vomit from the likes of Michael Weiner Savage and Dr. - when did your mother die? - Laura: Bernie and Ray are the minority voices with punch, humor, and poignant analyes of the contemporary American scene!

I heard Bernie read the column on last night's show. I *think* he was proud. Bernie's wonderful. I hate it when he's out (esp. when Karel subs). Bernie, Ray Tallaferio and John Rothman among the very best there is!

I second your comments about Karel! His show is not interactive with the callers at all. Just listen for yourself. After a caller makes one statement, he responds with "and thanks for your call" and continues his 3 hours monologue.

I can't believe people actually call because he doesn't have a "conversation" with callers. They make a statement, he then cuts them off and continues on with "and thanks for your call" and that's it. I'm sooooo over it! Karel is very in love with himself and loves to hear himself talk.

Here's a tip Karel: Try actually being a "TALK" show host and maybe people would be more receptive to your show.

Absolutely nobody does it better than Bernie Ward. SF Bay Area...we are very fortunate to have this brilliantly savvy local and live radio personality. If you really want to know what's up in Washington, if you want true excellence in politically thought provoking broadcasting...tune into Bernie Ward!

Bernie is the Mr. Spock of radio talk show hosts in terms of his ability to reason. He appeared on the
Heil Hanity show once I believe and he was never invited back because he had Hanity for lunch.

I would just love to see the footage when he mauled
Anne Coulter on one of those talking heads TV shows.

I miss you more than I can say. Our lion of the left is being politically persecuted, prosecuted for his politics.

Come back soon. If KGO doesn't get you back on the air ASAP then THEY TOO are Bush rubber stamps. An intimidated group made afraid, too afraid to support an excellent, intelligent talk show host with a mind like a steel trap who doesn't forget past behaviors and is able to see and share the patterns.

Know you are missed greatly and again, come back soon.

'into' this stuff? Where do they get that from. People really should learn to read the entire paragraph of something, rather than just the header. Anyway, I miss the show, I used to listen all the time back in the syndicate days. This guy is a genius at talk, like the commenters above said, and really covered all kinds of topics that matter when other people on the air either couldn't or wouldn't. But as said before here, my favorite about him is how well he could engage his guests and callers into a conversation, you know, the participation element. Leykus does this pretty well at times too.
