Brick - CLOSED
We've seen some lists of ingredients that struck us as unlikely, unwise, even (dare we say) unappealing. But the list of ingredients on one dessert at Brick, a small-plates place in the Tenderloin with a cutting-edge kitchen, seemed to be daring us to try the dish, or shall we say accumulation: a white chocolate mousse with mango, olive tapenade, goat cheese, sesame, and kumquat marmalade. Yikes! But, as served, the sweet turned out to be not only delicious, but sexy. The mousse itself was wrapped in a tube of thin-sliced juicy mango, sparsely dotted with the tapenade, which served as a salty accent. Alongside was a creamy, tangy mixture of goat cheese and mascarpone, crusted with sesame seeds, and a heap of the jewellike citrus marmalade. The combination was unexpectedly brilliant, and we were completely convinced: We'd return to Brick for that dessert alone.
