North Beach Lobster Shack
The interior of the charmingly hokey North Beach Lobster Shack, with its wooden picnic tables and benches, maps of the Maine seacoast, and buoys, appears to have been airlifted directly from Maine; the fresh seafood certainly is. We love the creamy clam chowder, the lush lobster bisque, and the beer-battered fish and chips, but the big draw is the lobster rolls. You can choose the classic Maine Lobster Roll (chunks of steamed lobster mixed with Hellmann's — aka Best Foods — mayonnaise and chopped green onions) or the Naked Lobster Roll (just lobster meat, served with sides of drawn butter, mayo, and chunks of lemon). Top-loading buns baked especially for the place are stuffed with generous portions (and they ought to be, at $17.75 each) of the luxurious sweet crustacean, either way you choose.
