Francois (at Mission Rock)San Francisco, CA(415) 495-9344 (415) 495-9344 http://www.mhpyc.org As cookie-cutter loft renovations turn Third Street into a wasteland of yuppie money, you have to hold on fast to the old-school charm of a place like the Mariposa Hunters Point Yacht Club. Created in 1932, the waterfront property is a working-class watering hole without an ounce of pretension, with cheap drinks, amiable bartenders, and events ranging from BBQs to cruises on the bay. Although the club prefers patrons to own boats, your interest in seafaring voyages is more important than if you actually have a vessel. The one requirement that stands firm, however, is that you must be a member — or the guest of one — to hang out there. Dues are $125 a year, and you can sign up after buddying up to someone who is already part of this private club. Make new boating friends when the club holds its next open house on June 14.
