It also marks the only time our local teams met in the World Series, with the powerhouse A's administering a four-game waxing to the overmatched G-men. A humiliating sweep might seem an odd milestone for the Giants to commemorate, but a pennant is a pennant. The superstitious fans in the crowd, concerned that the combined presence of Will Clark, Matt Williams, Kevin Mitchell, Roger Craig, and Rick Reuschel (among others) will once again provoke the gods of plate tectonics, can relax: The Giants don't play at nightmarish Candlestick Park anymore.
