Epicenter opened a couple of years after I stopped working in Soma, so I've only been there a couple of times. The folks who run it are clearly enthusiastic about their coffee - what variety of beans they've got this week, what's the best way to brew each one. If you don't want to geek over the coffee, you don't have to, but they know their stuff. It's worth walking the extra couple of blocks to go there instead of Whole Foods or Peets.

Epicenter Cafe
Whether you're a blogger, a desk jockey, or a bootstrapper for a start-up, you may find yourself looking for a place to sit down, do some work, and maybe even hold meetings — away from the office. Sure, you can try Starbucks. But if you don't feel like dealing with the constant foot traffic, occasional screaming baby, and noisy coffee machines, you may want a more office-friendly cafe. Epicenter is the type of place where you can hold court for a few hours, get your work done in peace, and eat some decent food such as housemade frittatas for breakfast, Argentine empanadas for lunch, and red snapper en papillote for dinner. So settle in, enjoy a French-pressed cup of joe, snack on some delicious treats, and, of course, get some work done.
