Comments (0) Best Chance to Get Drunk at the Library — for a Good Cause - 2011

Friends of the San Francisco Public Library's IMBIBE

Yes, Virginia, there are drunks at the library. Those men you see spinning in the Main Branch's atrium as if channeling Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music are not, in fact, channeling Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. But is it possible to get hammered at the library, legally — and for a good cause? You bet your signed copy of The Sun Also Rises it is. The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library's IMBIBE series offers literary-minded thrill-seekers the chance to drink up in branch libraries. For the $35 cost of Friends membership, you'll get to clink glasses at the Marina Branch on June 17, the Richmond Branch on Sept. 30, and the Potrero Branch on Dec. 2. If you like books, drinking, and books about drinking, this is the one for you.
