Caffe BaoNecci's Giovedi Film

Every second Thursday of the month, this tiny, homey cafe in North Beach run by the Gambaccini family from Lucca, Italy, turns into a movie house. Misanthropes seeking the anonymity of a dark theater need not apply: At BaoNecci, you take your seat at rows of tables where you rub elbows with other film aficionados, and it's just plain awkward not to chitchat. You then share a family-style dinner of antipasti and a seemingly endless tide of thin-crust pizza or pasta carried out by waiters while you watch an Italian movie on a large-screen TV on the wall. The price is $30 a head, everything included. Do make a reservation, because the 30 seats always fill up.
