When many people think of reading series, they see images of tweed, of nervous academics struggling to find their place on paperclipped pages, of sleepy and distracted audience members, of starstruck wannabes who can't escape the gravitational pull of emulation to reach originality. We'll give you originality: a man who calls himself "Multi-Tasking Michael." He recites a passage from Shakespeare's Hamlet by memory. He wears no clothes. While grasping the microphone with one hand and faithfully rendering the Bard's immortal words, he pleasures himself with the other hand. His voice remains even and true during his dichotomous deeds. He concludes with "To thine own self be true." The audience of about 20 shouts and applauds. Multitasking indeed. Is this typical of K'vetch? No (which is to say, not many people read naked or recite others' work), but yes (in that most performers are funny and entertaining in unexpected ways). The series has run for 15 years and takes place on the first Sunday of every month at this atypical gay sex club, whose friendly staff welcomes people of all genders to K'vetch.
