Geoff Hoyle

Readers' Choice: Ann Randolph

Just when you thought you were terrified of clowns, Geoff Hoyle comes along to show you just how amazing a clown can be. This Broadway veteran — he originated the role of Zazu in The Lion King — has practiced his craft for decades, including stints in the Pickle Family Circus and Cirque du Soleil. In 2011, he introduced Bay Area audiences to Geezer, his one-man show at the Marsh, and we're prepared to call it the funniest meditation on mortality you're likely to see on a local stage this year. It's also the perfect showcase for a guy whose limbs appear to contain at least twice the normal number of joints. So go see Geezer, playing through July 10, and spend two hours appreciating this man's blazing talent. Observe his mastery of physical comedy. Then, after you've left the theater, you can go back to having nightmares about clowns.
