Yeah. I had heard it really stank, too! I hear the promoter is a real loser from LA. Watch out for her!
Best Way to Simultaneously See Local Bands and Hear Classic Songs San Francisco 2011 - Undercover Presents
Sometimes you want to check out one of the myriad local bands that your friends are always going on about, but usually you just want to hear songs you know and love. UnderCover Presents scratches both itches, putting on shows — events, really — dedicated to an entire classic album, performed by area musicians who put their own spin on the songs. The project got rolling last October at Coda (RIP) with more than 50 artists (including star turns by Liz Phair and Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins) dedicating their energies to The Velvet Underground & Nico under the direction of Classical Revolution's Charith Premawardhana; the number of players doubled in February as Edmund Welles' Aaron Novik led a massive cast through the Pixies' Doolittle at Public Works. Both have commemorative albums on Porto Franco Records, and the Doolittle spectacular — whose highlights included LoCura dropping a salsa bomb on "Mr. Grieves" and female choir Conspiracy of Venus beautifully twisting "Monkey Gone to Heaven" out of shape — is the subject of a forthcoming documentary.
