Best 49er - 2012
We could have chosen any number of standouts from the 49ers' transcendent defense for this honor — which is why a player of Justin Smith's caliber has flown under the radar for so long. In fact, the 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive end may be the team's third-most illustrious Smith after Alex and Aldon. He's well known in Hawaii, however, having cracked three consecutive Pro Bowl rosters. Last year, in fact, he was tapped as an AP All-Pro at both defensive end and defensive tackle. Smith knows from versatility: He terrorized quarterbacks in the backfield, but was also a major clogger for a Niners defense that nearly went the entire regular season without allowing a rushing touchdown. If that weren't enough to endear him to a San Francisco crowd, there is this: His preferred pregame meal is purportedly sushi.
