Lee Houskeeper
Like yesterday's libations swirling in the bowl, it was just a matter of time before the Gold Dust Lounge went down. But press agent Lee Houskeeper ensured it did not go gentle into that good night. While the establishment eventually ran out of luck with its contention that serving as a vomitorium for Janis Joplin should merit landmark consideration, Houskeeper deftly fanned the flames of public sentiment to make a dive bar's existential drama into a top media story. The man does quality flackery for the Bovis family, which owns both the Gold Dust and Lefty O'Doul's, and Houskeeper has done yeoman's work publicizing Lefty's hiring of lascivious Santa John Toomey (R.I.P.) and the annual festivities surrounding the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. Seriously, if ever you want to talk to a 105-year-old quake survivor and it's got to be now, Houskeeper is your man.
