This city-run museum atop Corona Heights hosts a menagerie of rescued wild animals for your budding Jack Hanna. Kids can get up close and personal with a desert tortoise, a gopher snake, a hawk, two kinds of owls, and a talking raven. The miniature petting zoo includes rabbits, exotic chickens, and guinea pigs, plus kids can peer into the cross-section of a buzzing beehive. In other parts of the museum, aspiring seismologists can build Lego houses on vibrating platforms and then shake them to test their quakeworthiness. Kids may also enjoy clambering around inside a model house or train car — or unwinding with toys in the toddler playroom. The Randall offers spring and fall classes for kids, teens, and adults, and camp in the summer. Check it out the next time you're stuck at home on a rainy day — though the views from the museum grounds are spectacular on clear days, too.
