Quiet Lightning is a monthly submission-based reading series that forbids introductions or bantering from its authors. There shall be no shmoozing, no backstory or context, only the words as they were written on the page. The format prevents personality from taking over a reading, so that stories can strike hard and fast as lightning. While writers can submit their work, literature lovers can also submit themselves as curators and step into the role of choosing readers. Tonight's event is curated by Kristen Kramer and Sarah Carpenter, and features Jen Sullivan Brych, whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Wired, and The Rumpus, SF Weekly “Best Writers Without a Book” Siamak Vossoughi and Marcus Lund, and nine others. Enjoy these writers' work on El Rio's patio, and get inspired to do some writing of your own on Quiet Lightning-provided stationery and typewriters.
