Where Fashion Sits: Juanita More’s Puttin’ on the Titz

Spangled gowns upon the bevy of high browns, yes, but mostly fake titz. Lots and lots of fake titz.

Juanita More (Joe Montana)

For somewhat dubious-sounding reasons, Floor 21, Juanita More’s Wednesday evening cocktail soiree at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel’s Starlight Room, ended last month. A certain retro style of glamour seldom seen in S.F. these days pervaded the affair, week after week. But the famously politically engaged drag queen with a discerning palate ain’t taking it lying down.

Next Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., A.C.T.’s Strand Theater (1127 Market) will host the The House of MORE’s Puttin’ on the Titz, a one-night-only drag bonanza featuring a wide cross-section of San Francisco’s elite. Glamamore, Miss Rahni, Voodonna Black, Dulce de Leche, Fauxnique, Honey Mahogany, and Qween — all of whom, it is claimed, have a collective 250 years of stage experience to their names — will perform live and lip-synched vintage acts, with a fair amount of dance and comedy thrown in.

Outside, in the lobby’s Giggle Water Bar, Just Shannon will pour classic cocktails as silent films screen above. Tickets start at only $25, so you won’t find yourself “spending every dime / for a wonderful time.”

House of MORE! – Puttin’ On The Titz, Friday, Nov. 11, 7-10 p.m., at A.C.T.’s Strand Theater, 1127 Market St., $25-$35, act-sf.org.
