Photos: Sex Worker Film & Arts Festival Opens with Love for $ale

"Be nice to sex workers

The San Francisco Sex Worker Film & Arts Festival opened with a gender-bending bang Friday night at the Roxie Theater in the form of Love for $ale: A Sweet Talking ~ Street Walking Burlesque Cabaret. It was hosted by adult film star, activist, and male escort Derrick Hanson alongside Tom Orr, who's known for giving musical numbers “a gay tune-up,” among other things. It was billed as “an arousing evening of hookers, hustlers, hussies, and high-class ho's” celebrating the oldest profession. It benefited the St. James Infirmary, which is the only free medical and social-services clinic in the nation set up for sex workers and their partners. The festival continues through May 29.
