Cruel jokes and vicious shade will lay the foundation for the Roast of Heklina Saturday, as the San Francisco drag icon will be on the receiving end of a fierce put-down extravaganza. SF Weekly spoke with Heklina in advance of this weekend’s roasting at the Castro Theatre, where an all-star roster of queens will completely slay her with disparaging realness.
“In my limited memory, I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a roast like this at the Castro Theatre. I don’t know why I’m opening myself up to this,” Heklina tells SF Weekly. “You’re going to hear a lot of ugly, old, and fat jokes aimed at me.”
The world’s biggest bitch Jackie Beat will emcee Saturday night’s proceedings, with roasting panel of prominent queens that also includes Peaches Christ, Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska Thunderfuck, and Sister Roma.
“I picked a lot of these queens because of their vicious sense of humor,” Helkina tells us. “Jackie Beat was a natural to pick as the roastmaster. She’s the most vicious queen I know. And she’s the most bitter person I know.”
Pop stars Ana Matronic (Scissor Sisters) and Julie Brown (Earth Girls Are Easy, “The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun”) will add a less barbaric tone to the confab. “We’ll have some sweethearts like Julie Brown,” Heklina says. “I don’t think she knows what she’s getting herself into.”
It’s sure to be a most rim-mantic evening, as roasters will likely dwell on Heklina’s famous appetite for giving rimjobs. “I am known for rimming, that is true,” she admits. “That’s something that I have not really done onstage since the Trannyshack days. Of course it’s followed me around, I’m always going to be known as the rim queen.”
But awfulness will be directed at all of the roast participants. “Everyone gets roasted, though the main target obviously is me,” Heklina explains. “Then at the very end I stand up and I get my coup de grâce. I get the last word.”
But actually, the last word will come at the afterparty at Heklina’s nightclub Oasis, featuring the cast of Boulet Brothers’ DRAGULA Season 2. The Roast of Heklina will also be aired in March on the new streaming service Revry.
