Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack, Serpentine, Mezcalito, E&O Kitchen, and Chapeau!
These are five of the 120 restaurants taking part in 2017’s SF Restaurant Week, which begins two weeks from today (Wednesday, Jan. 18) and runs for another 12 days, wrapping up on Sunday the 29th.
This year, Tyler Florence and Wayfare Tavern will participate alongside fellow newcomers like ‘Aina, Babu Ji, Bellota, Fogo de Chão, Old Bus Tavern, The Rambler, Tratto, and more. Returning are perennial deal-offerers like Canela, Alembic, Boxing Room, Waterbar, and One Market, and dozens more.
Restaurants offer special, discounted menus for lunch ($15 or $25) and/or dinner ($40 or $65), and the specific courses are up to them. Some deals are better than others, and some restaurants are on the touristy side, too. But good options abound. Take, for example, the Jackson Square Japanese restaurant Roka Akor, which has a $65 dinner with a choice of either escolar tataki or yellowtail sashimi as the appetizer, a chef’s selection of five pieces of sashimi, then a choice of either black cod or Wagyu sirloin as the entree, and warm Valhrona chocolate cake for dessert.
On the simpler side, the two Delarosas have an easy, $15 lunch deal consisting of a soup or salad and a pasta or pizzetta. Especially well thought-out might be Red Dog‘s $40 dinner, which in spite of being priced per person aims for a family-style service, offering hot Indian dates, fried mac ‘n’ cheese, deviled quail eggs with brandied trout caviar, and house-made beer bread, then one of four appetizers, a choice of any daily entree special, plus any dessert or local cheese board. That’s a steal.
A project from the industry-boosting Golden Gate Restaurant Association, Restaurant Week comes at a time when the expanding hairline cracks in San Francisco’s ever-expanding roster of eateries are beginning to cause large chunks of plate glass to fall onto the streets below. (And not just here.) But you got to eat, right? Go support your local businesses, and enjoy!
