Where to Eat and Drink for Fire Relief

You're going to be hungry again sooner or later, so you might as well fill your stomach for a cause.

“Look to the helpers,” as they say. When disaster strikes, good people rise up to take care of others, and with 8,000 structures destroyed and some 100,000 people currently displaced, recovery from the Northern California wildfires requires a lot of good people. Here are some places in San Francisco and elsewhere where you can eat and drink for fire relief — or simply give. Maybe let Thanksgiving start a little early this year.

Wine Country Strong Fundraiser at Finn Town
Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy Matthew Parlato and his family lost everything in the Tubbs fire, and his sister Katrina happens to be Finn Town’s director of operations. So, for the next three Wednesdays — Oct. 25, Nov. 1, and Nov. 8 — Finn Town (2251 Market St.) will donate 40 percent of its Wine Wednesday sales directly to the Parlato family, via their GoFundMe.

Wild Kitchen’s Beer Pairing Fundraiser Dinners
On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10 and 11, Wild Kitchen, champion forager Iso Rabins’ “roving underground supper club” returns after a year away to throw two family-style dinners with beer pairings. One hundred percent of the $125 ticket goes to the Northern California Fire Fund, and you can look forward to wild mushroom polenta, maple syrup roasted brussels sprouts, and “Thanksgiving angel wings” (turkey wings with wild boar stuffing, served with garlic mashed potatoes, wild mushroom gravy, and cranberry).

ChefsGiving
During the week of Nov. 13-19, more than 100 restaurants across the country will stage events to benefit Tipping Point Emergency Fund and Restaurants Care, which aid low-income communities in fire-damaged areas and affected restaurant-industry workers, respectively. Bay Area participants include Atelier Crenn, Manresa, The Slanted Door, Outerlands, Robin, Foreign Cinema, Dumpling Time, 4505 Burgers & BBQ, Souvla, Media Noche, and more. Co-founded by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, ChefsGiving will see a week of pop-ups, special menu items, and other food events, to raise at least $2,500 per restaurant and $1 million in total, culminating in a gala on Nov. 19.

SF Fights Fire
A chef-driven effort to feed first responders and evacuees via the Salvation Army in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties, SF Fights Fire has heavy-hitters like Traci des Jardins (The Commissary, Jardinière), Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski (The Progress, State Bird Provisions), Sam Mogannam (Bi-Rite), Ravi Kapur (Liholiho Yacht Club) and others. By making food and soliciting financial support, this coalition’s stated goal is 1,000 meals per day — and you can even help cook them.
