Ghirardelli Square may be San Francisco’s chocolate capital but on Saturday, Oct. 14, from noon to 7 p.m., the truffles will be swept aside by more important matters, namely a German makeover in the form of Oktoberfest courtesy of San Francisco Brewing Co.
Oktoberfest events around the Bay Area are well underway, with weekly parties at Schroeder’s and various other bratwurst-eating, polka-dancing, bierstiefel-drinking activities to be had throughout the city. If you haven’t had a chance yet to put on some lederhosen and dirndls and spend an afternoon chugging Berliner Weisse, get yourself to Ghirardelli Square for a day of German polka music, boots of beer, games, pretzels, and more in the beer garden located in the square’s West Plaza.
And if you find yourself particularly thrilled about sipping beers in the historic landmark square — and why wouldn’t you with panoramic views of the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, and cable cars? — San Francisco Brewing Co. recently announced plans to open its first tap room and on-site brewery in the West Plaza in spring 2018. After testing out a pop-up beer garden in the square this summer, San Francisco Brewing Co. has decided to become a permanent tenant pouring beers alongside a full-service restaurant, outdoor patio, fire pits, and group games.
