Corey Lee, SingleThread, and La Taqueria Win James Beard Nods

Could you think of a better way to commend San Francisco's dining scene than by recognizing a chef with three Michelin stars ... and S.F.'s most beloved taco joint?

Tonight at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, actor (and noted foodie) Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosted the James Beard Awards. The Bay Area didn’t win any of the top-tier awards — Best New Restaurant went to New York’s Le Coucou, for instance, and the Outstanding Chef was Michael Solomonov of Philly’s Zahav — but in their totality, the awards bestowed on our region are rather heartwarming. Among the Restaurant Design Awards, in the category of 75 Seats and Under, Kristina O’Neal, William Harris, Adam Farmerie, and Greg Bradshaw of AvroKO won for their design of Healdsburg’s new stunner, SingleThread

For Best Chef in the West (California, Hawaii, and Nevada), the award went to Corey Lee of Benu (as well as of In Situ and Monsieur Benjamin). But most charmingly, La Taqueria and owner Miguel Jara got recognized as one of the James Beard Foundation’s America’s Classics. Congrats to all — but let’s hear it for the plucky little guy.
