An update on Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, the ice cream and sweets shop nearing completion in Dogpatch. Pastry chef/owner Ian Flores told us he's expecting to open in just about two weeks. The permitting process is done. The only holdup is a custom sneeze guard. “We're getting close,” Flores said. “We got product, we have electrical, we've been testing.” A peek into the papered windows at 699 22nd St. (at Third St.) revealed tables, chairs, and a counter fronting an open kitchen. Flores said he's still mulling over the idea of mounting a soft opening, or maybe a friends and family kickoff.
Pastry chef and baker Annabelle Topacio, Flores' partner in business and, well, every other way, has been testing cookies, shortbread, and what the Brits call flapjacks, the kind that aren't slather targets for butter and syrup. “They're like a granola bar, but not as clunky and bulky,” Topacio explained.
