I know the mere mention of a new bagel place in San Francisco may lead to some New York-bagel purists to curse this California native for even insinuating that San Francisco has bagels worth consuming. But wait! You didn’t even let me say that BagelMacher is the brainchild of Jeff Krupman and his Pizzahacker team — who, may I add, hve done a formidable job with another New York staple.
“Fancy-shamncey” toppings include avocado, grass-fed butter, and Sierra Nevada Organic cream cheese. Those seeking something more substantial can enjoy the“Big Macher,” an open-face sandwich of lox, cucumber, red onion, capers, cream cheese and jelly, combination that Krupman askes us to trust in its deliciousness. On the beverage side of things, guests can enjoy grapefruit juice, refillable (local) coffee or a mimosa (offered by the glass or the carafe).
While BagelMacher launched just a few weeks ago, the team already has plans to expand the menu once they get a bit more dough under their apron strings. There is mention of a deconstructed breakfast sandwich with poached eggs and a summertime shakshuka. Saturday service is also in the works. Your move, Brooklyn.
