If you're sick of eating out all the time but want to retain some of that adventurous culinary spirit in your own kitchen, we have just the thing for you: Mysterious Thursdays at Mariquita Farm. Dubbed “guerilla vegetable deliveries,” the small family-run organic specialty farm near Watsonville shows up every other Thursday evening at a different San Francisco restaurant in an automobile described as a “taco truck-meets-the farmers market.” There they sell their mystery boxes — a bric-a-brac of interesting specialty veggies along with recipe suggestions — for $25 a pop, and leave the customers to their own devices. Recent mystery boxes have packed all kinds of veggies I've never actually seen outside the hoity-toity confines of a tasting menu: Broccoli de Cicco, Erbette Chard, Spring Garlic, Puntarelle, Spigariello, and Chantenay Carrots. It's a learning experience, people. Give it a shot. The next Mystery Box handout happens Thursday, June 12 at Piccino (801 22nd St. at Tennessee) in Dogpatch; 5:00 — 7:00 p.m. To secure your own mystery box email email@example.com or call 831-761-8380.
