Long before GLOW excited fans with animated, kitschy wrestling scenes, Lucha Libre took Mexico by storm. Characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds and maneuvers, tag-team matches, and high-flying aerial techniques, Mexican wrestling dates back to 1863. Dramatic, unpredictable, and steeped in lore, Lucha Libre pits good against evil, and it has saturated our society through art, film, and music.
And it’s coming to The Hive in Oakland this Sunday, Aug. 20, along with plenty of tacos and beer.
Spend the afternoon at LUCHA! celebrating this over-the-top sport with food from Calavera, beer from Drake’s Brewing Company, and ice cream from Humphry Slocombe. Bring the whole family and catch exciting battles from the athletes of Pro Wrestling Revolution. Nosh on chicken and pork tacos, pizza, ice cream, and Red Bay Coffee while cheering on the good guys. (Or the bad guys, if you’re evil.) Tickets start at $25, but the $50 VIP admission includes an after-party.
