Opening Report: Alta No. 2 to Hit Minnesota Street Projects

Opening

Kinjo (2206 Polk St.) Eater reports that yet another high-end sushi place is on the way, this one from Sushi Ran album Takatoshi Toshi. The menu at the 42-seat Kinjo will be edomae-style, meaning every last dish includes raw fish served on rice. Opening day is two weeks from today, Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Alta (1275 Minnesota St.) We’ve known for a while that Daniel Patterson was up to something at the Minnesota Street Projects in Dogpatch, and Inside Scoop reports that it will be a second location of Alta, which is one of the few Mid-Market restaurants to have survived (and thrived). Patterson will occupy a chairman-of-the-board role, as Anthony Lee (of location no. 1) will be the executive chef.

Dad’s Luncheonette (225 Cabrillo Highway South, Half Moon Bay). Scott Clark of Saison has decided to run away and join the circus, in the form of opening his own Thursday-to-Sunday roadside restaurant in a disused train car in Half Moon Bay. Eater reports that Dad’s Luncheonette will open in February, serving locally sourced, under-$15 food and wine by the can(!)

Ichi Sushi (3369 Mission St.) Having put the previous location at 3282 Mission Street on the market following Tim Archuleta’s illness, he and his wife Erin have officially reopened Ichi Suhi in its original home across the street and up the block.

Takuya (716 Irving St.) Hoodline says that the Inner Sunset space that was once very temporarily home to an unsanctioned Quickly and which has been Irving Cafe since then will become a Japanese-style hot dog joint called Takuya.

Illy (220 Montgomery St. and 90 New Montgomery St.) The Italian coffee chain will open its sixth and seventh S.F. locations very near one another in the next seven to 10 days, Hoodline reports.

Rum & Sugar (823 Geary). There’s been a flurry of new bars opening in and around the Tenderloin, and the latest contains Olga Zhuravskaya and Natasha Avtonomova’s 100-strong rum collection. Hoodline says Rum & Sugar is open and will have its grand opening on Jan. 28.

Bota (490 Geary St.) The Warwick Hotel has gotten a tapas restaurant. Now softly open, with a full opening scheduled for later this month or early next, Bota has Spanish delicacies for breakfast, brunch, and dinner.

Elsewhere

Calle 24 (24th Street between ). The Chron reports that to protect the Latino Cultural District from further gentrification, newly sworn-in supervisor Hillary Ronen has proposed limiting new bars and restaurants within the area bounded by 22nd Street, Cesar Chavez Street, Mission Street, and Potrero Avenue. Her bill would prevent a new eatery from opening if 35 percent or more of the businesses within a 300-foot radius were already food-and-drink establishments. While nominally affecting the entire neighborhood, this basically applies to Calle 24, the neighborhood’s commercial corridor.
