Vitamin C with a Kicker

Farmers' Market Cocktail Night: Aperitifs

Where: Ferry Building Marketplace, 1 Ferry Building (at Embarcadero)

When: Wed., Feb. 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Cost: For $35 for two full-sized cocktails made with Campari, one a variation on the Negroni, the other an original creation by Locanda's Brian Mac Gregor and staff (as an added bonus, this will be your first chance to preview food from Locanda, the Delfina spinoff due this spring). Also 10 sample-sized drinks made from as many spirits.

The rundown: CUESA and the United States Bartenders' Guild (USBG) are showcasing both local produce and bartending talent for the first farmers' market happy hour of 2011. The theme is winter citrus, showcased in aperitif-style cocktails, lighter, more food-friendly expressions. With the market brimming with exotic and familiar citrus, expect to get your share of vitamin C in cocktail form. Full disclosure (also fair warning): This blogger serves as USBG secretary, and will be behind the stick Wednesday with some notable professional talent: Kristin Almy, Bar Adagio; Jared Anderson, 15 Romolo; Summer-Jane Bell, Hotsy Totsy Club; Patrick Brennan, Prospect; Michael Callaghan, Azul; Kevin Diedrich, the Burritt Room; Kyle Ford, Rye; Stuart Green, Beretta; Tiffany Kramer, Blackbird; Brian Mac Gregor, Locanda; and Josh Perez, 15 Romolo. Hors d'oeuvres supplies by 15 Romolo, Beretta, Il Cane Rosso, and Locanda.
