http://www.eosanfrancisco.com E&O is a big, fun-filled Disneyfied version of some Southeast Asian trading post, with towering ceilings, a split-level dining room, equatorial-rustic objets d'art, and a tasty selection of Indonesian, Malaysian, and Vietnamese delicacies. The dumplings, spring rolls, satays, and stir fries are especially tasty with one of the house tropical cocktails or a flagon of Indian lager, and don't pass up the crunchy corn fritters, the house specialty. The mood is frolicsome and festive, or opt for the mezzanine if you're in a more intimate mood. Tasty, reasonably priced lunch menu, too. More >>
If you like your neighborhood bars dark 'n' patriotic, you've found your watering hole, Pilgrim. Eagles adorn the walls here, and there are also plenty of Air Force and Marines bumper stickers to round out the theme. Though the decor is decidedly macho, most everyone seems to turn up, from women to bikers to blue collars to students and, yes, even soldiers on leave. The real draw here, besides generous pours and a nice beer selection, is the darts. In a city full of bars with pool tables, it's nice to see a dive bar that is devoted to this somewhat forgotten tavern sport. At the height of happy hour, expect to see an Olympic-like devotion to the game. More >>
http://www.eswsf.com This popular Marina Triangle restaurant is known for its oyster bar, but night transforms the seafood spot into a cool bar with hip hop DJs and live jazz. More >>
http://www.edgesf.com Living life on the Edge, in this case, means paying a visit to this dark dive in the Castro. The tiny corner bar is close to the Castro Theatre, so it's great for a pre- or post-movie drink. Happy hour starts at noon and runs till 7 p.m., but the place is cash only, so make sure your wallet is full to take advantage of the specials: Sundays are all about $3 Bloody Marys to aid hangovers, Mai Tai Mondays offer up the strong and sweet concoctions for $4, and on Tuesday they sell PBR cans for $1. Planets hang from a cosmos-themed ceiling, the bartenders are friendly, and the music is random but enjoyable. A quiet, sparsely populated space early in the week, the Edge is packed from hump day on, especially on Fridays, when the self-explanatory "Strong Drinks, Low Lights, Men" sets off the weekend. Be warned: there is only one bathroom. More >>
http://www.castlenews.com Although the fire marshal has put the kibosh on live bands (for now, at least), indie DJs still spin many nights at this dark, crowded, multi-tiered Scottish pub. If you're into hip retro Britpop or Mod soul - and love some fish 'n' chips with your stout - this is a good place to start your night. More >>
http://www.elriosf.com With moderately priced (and heavily poured) drinks, a sprawling patio, and an intimate stage in a side room, this Mission District destination is a keystone of indie-hipster nightlife. DJs spin everything from country to funk, bands play everything from samba to punk, and the $1 Monday nights are the stuff of legend. More >>
As one may guess, the Mission has some slammin' salsa bars, and El Valenciano is one of 'em. This classic bar/dance club offers beginning salsa lessons every Wednesday from 9-10 p.m. and dancers show their stuff after class and on weekends, when the mostly over-50 Latin crowd shakes it to a mix of DJs and live bands. Things get hoppin' around 10:30 p.m., but until then expect a chill bar with a top-shelf tequila selection and friendly bartenders. They also usually feature a full food menu; however, the kitchen is currently being remodeled and expects to be finished in early 2011. More >>
http://www.elbo.com The Elbo Room ain't the rock Valhalla it once was, but a bar and pinball machines downstairs and a music venue upstairs provide entertainment that varies between DJ nights and live bands ranging from hip-hop to punk to funk to samba. There's never a cover charge for the downstairs bar, whose crimson-candlelit booths are often jam-packed with attractive scenesters. The second-floor music room, meanwhile, attracts a crowd as varied as the events themselves: hippies, hipsters, goths, rockers, hip-hop heads, salsa dancers, old-school soul twisters - name any demographic, they've all been here at one time or another. http://www.elismilehigh.com Long a renowned blues hotspot, Eli's Mile High went through some rough times - and many owners - before being reborn as a punk rock dive by the highway. Thrashy bands now take over the stage several nights a week, blasting heavy riffs to tattooed crowds who may not even notice the decades worth of blues memorabilia and old show posters on the walls. A casually scruffy back patio, lowbrow art mini-gallery, upstairs tattoo parlor, and plenty of cheap booze help complete the makeover. More >>
http://www.elixirsf.com The Hunt-In Club. Swede's. Club Corona. There's allegedly been a bar at this address since the mid-1800s - with the current corner space in operation since just after the 1906 quake - and you can sense some of that history at Elixir. Ornamental antique lamps hang from the deep crimson ceiling, illuminating walls cluttered with framed artwork that reflects the saloon's past, while a vintage dark-wood bar back looks to be older than the age of many clientele combined. And speaking of clientele, Elixir's demographic and atmosphere can change with the hour: it's sunny and bright during the day, then shadowy and candlelit at night, and the crowd can be either raucous and loud or refined and quiet. Some come for the classy artisanal cocktails, served in a manner that made Elixir the city's first "certified green" bar. Others are content to pump money into the digital jukebox, which may play hardcore punk and classic jazz or Top 40 hip-hop and twanging country. If you're not into what's happening at the moment, come back another time. The bar'll still be here. It probably always will. More >>
http://www.encorekaraokesf.com Polk Street pub crawling got you down? Veer off a half-block off Polk and head up to this second-floor karaoke zone, whose decor feels like a cross between an old-school mafia den and new-school Asian lounge. Boisterous birthday groups and shy amateurs alike share the microphone spotlight at Encore, where the low ceilings and somewhat retro style can let you pretend you're the 1970s lounge singer you always secretly yearned to be. http://www.theendup.com A nightclub that (fortunately) stays up well past its bedtime, the Endup has a hard-earned reputation as an after-hours mecca that still holds up. Though somewhat dated in style, this venerable club's backyard grotto remains an urban oasis, with fountains and ferns and reverberating dance beats distracting from the fact that the highway runs right outside the gates. http://www.estanocheclub.com A hub for the gay Latino community for more than two decades, Esta Noche offers its club patrons a refined DJ mix of Latin and house music and outrageous, gender-bending special events. More >>

http://www.eveloungesf.com The latest schmancy-dance cocktails 'n' DJs lounge South of Market opts for a retro jazzy vibe with tuck-and-roll leather benches, subdued colors, and low-slung tables for drinks. Many events are free - which is always the nicest price. More >>
