The Bar Gets Quiet

By Tara Jepsen

The Bar Gets Quiet

Charlie Anders, blond of bob and mini of skirt, is the hostess with the mostest science fiction at her literary hootenanny, Writers with Drinks. (She's also the news editor of io9, Gawker's sci-fi/fantasy blog.) Aside from Anders' charming ways, the lineup of readers is always delightful: Among the gems this month is puppeteer Mary Robinette Kowal, who has performed for Jim Henson Pictures and on LazyTown. Kowal also won a Campbell Award for best new science-fiction writer, and her story “Evil Robot Monkey” is a sweet and funny tale sure to whet anyone’s appetite for her upcoming novel, Shades of Milk and Honey. She is joined by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, S. Bear Bergman, Naomi Quinonez, and Kat Richardson. Tonight’s show is a benefit for El/La Programa Para TransLatinas, a group providing HIV prevention services, counseling, and other support for the trans Latina community in San Francisco’s Mission District.
