Last night (Wednesday), Mayor Ed Lee joined San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater for an opening party for its new space, The Costume Shop. According to a statement from A.C.T., the 2,400-square-foot theater in the mid-Market neighborhood features a lobby, backstage area, and dressing rooms and is set to serve as a showcase for the A.C.T.'s Master of Fine Arts productions. Also available for rent, The Costume Shop is expected to help to open up the area to a new potential influx of artistic programming. It's located at 1117 Market, at Seventh St.

Tonight (Dec. 8) through Dec. 10, the new venue runs A Musical Revue, performed by the A.C.T.'s M.F.A. Program class of 2013. The next planned events are in 2012: the annual Sky Festival (Jan. 20-21), which offers a program of original new works with "movement-based interpretations" of classic plays; and The House of Bernarda Alba (March 1-3), a dramatic Spanish play from 1945 as imagined by the M.F.A. Program class of 2014.
