Between them, Rachel Kramer Bussel and Susie Bright have probably edited or written 100 books relating to sex, and they've contributed to almost as many publications or websites. (We started to count but stopped when we reached "a lot.") So if anyone on the planet is qualified to present the Best Sex Writing 2012 (the title of their latest anthology), it's them. They appear tonight (Monday) at Booksmith.

For people who know sex writing, a look at the list of contributors (including Bussel and Bright themselves) is impressive. For those who know nothing about it, the titles of the works speak for themselves.

San Franciscan Greta Christina makes a case for why abandoning organized religion leads to better sex in "Atheists Do It Better." Joan Price (who we interviewed before a San Francisco appearance last summer) takes up sex among seniors in "Grief, Resilience, and My 66th Birthday Gift." Marty Klein issues a rare defense of the practice of circumcision. Thomas Roche fights mass misinformation in a piece subtitled "Newsweek, Trafficking, and the Lie of Fabricated Sex Studies." Bright embraces a different kind of untruth in "Why Lying About Monogamy Matters."

Other topics include a dating site for people with STDs, taking back the term "slut," workshops on female orgasms, and "Guys Who Like Fat Chicks." Bussel is in town from New York, so her joint appearance tonight with Bright is indeed rare.

Rachel Kramer Bussel and Susie Bright appear at 7:30 p.m. Monday (April 9) at the Booksmith, 1644 Haight (at Belvedere), S.F. Admission is free.

  • U2 @ SAP Center in San Jose
Last night U2 performed the first U.S. date of it’s Innocence + Experience tour at SAP Center in San Jose. All four band members were present despite recent injuries sustained by both Bono and Edge. The sold out show took audience members on a walk down memory lane as the band revisited their roots. The innovative stage and lighting used gave the arena show an intimate feel, and engaged audience members in all sections of the venue. Photographs by Sugarwolf.

The 103rd annual Bay to Breakers 12K race was packed on Sunday despite the cold weather. With a starting point a few blocks from The Embarcadero, people dressed as bananas, Elvis and everything in between ran west through the city and finished at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto Ocean Beach.
