The Faux Queen Pageant: For Drag Queens Trapped in Women's Bodies

It's common knowledge that San Francisco has a thriving drag scene -- Fauxgirls, Trannyshack, Hot Boxxx Girls, Midnight Mass, the Drag King Contest, and even Esta Noche, the gritty Mexican dive in the Mission, does a helluva drag show. Indeed, it seems you can't throw a size 11 stiletto out the window without hitting a drag queen. "But what about a show for drag queens trapped in female bodies?" you ask, as you sigh into your gluten-free Muesli. The answer, of course, lies in the Faux Queen Pageant: The Next Generation.

Originally conceived for contestants who were women pretending to be men pretending to be women, now the show celebrates any and all female drag performers. Leigh Crow and Trixxie Car man, er, woman the microphones as emcees. Judging the contestants on a space-themed fashion show and talent portion are the unstoppable Heklina, Fauxnique, L. Ron Hubby, and many more. Comedian and founder of QComedy Nick Leonard sells jokes for the recession-friendly price of $1, and Kegel Kater turns your frowns upside down with her "kissy-facepainting" talents. But! There's more to FQP than glitter and maxed-out Sephora credit cards. Beneficiaries of Sunday's event include Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, SaveABunny, and Women Organized to Make Abuse Nonexistent. In the timeless words of Lady Gaga, "Don't be a drag, just be a queen" at this only-in-S.F. event.

To get you in the mood, here's a, uh, rousing rendition of "Camel Toe."

The Faux Queen Pageant starts Sunday, September 16 at 8 p.m. at DNA Lounge, 375 11th St. (at Folsom), S.F. Admission is $12-$15. The show is 18+.
