A recent report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Trust for America's Health found that nearly half of Californians will be obese by 2030 if they don't shift to healthier eating habits. Though the state currently ranks 46th in the nation for obesity, this increase is expected to impact California with a 15 percent rise in healthcare costs, or an additional $48-$66 billion a year. The Bay Area is certainly one of the healthiest regions in the state, but we all could be doing more to ensure a greener lifestyle.

Enter the 13th Annual San Francisco World Veg Festival. This two-day event hosted by the city's Vegetarian Society commemorates World Vegetarian Day with a family-friendly, health-conscious cataclysm of eco-eating, cooking, film screenings, and other live entertainment. This year's festival boasts informative lectures by trendsetting chefs, workshops featuring international speakers, healthy food and creative cooking demos (with free samples), and, our favorite part: an appearance by Ms. Celery 2012. Join the thousands annual attendees this event and learn how you can make greener choices.

The 13th Annual San Francisco World Veg Festival starts Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. (also Oct. 7) at the San Francisco County Fair Building, 1199 Ninth Ave. (at Lincoln, in Golden Gate Park), S.F. Admission is free-$10.
