We at SF Weekly don't shy away from sexual subjects, so we occasionally get "fan mail" of an explicit nature -- propositions, overly personal e-mails, and the rare marriage proposal. We can only imagine what kind of fan mail a porn star might receive. Well, now we don't have to wonder. Porn darling and Bay Area native Nina Hartley offers up the words, art, and gifts her fans have given her throughout her extensive career in the exhibition "Letters to a Porn Star: Nina Hartley Fan Mail."

Hartley, whose first adult film was shot in the Bay Area in 1984, has been featured in over 650 films, has won the most AVN awards (the Oscars for porn) of anyone in history, and was one of the first crossover stars with her appearance in Boogie Nights. The letters include over-the-top compliments to the "sensual, sensuous, divine Nina," advice on sexual health, commentary on Hartley's activism, and more, providing a scintillating glimpse into the world of porn fandom. If you have your own words to contribute, Ms. Hartley also appears in person tonight.

"Letters to a Porn Star" starts March 1 at 7 p.m. (and runs through March 18) at the Center for Sex and Culture, 1349 Mission, S.F. Admission is free; call 902-2071 or visit sexandculture.org.

If you can't make it Friday, on Sunday, the CSC is holding a panel, Porn-Star-Gazing: A panel about porn performers and their fans with contemporary performers Lorelei Lee, Mickey Mod, and Conner Habib, plus Golden Age greats Richard Pacheco and CJ Laing.

To whet your appetite, watch Hartley's sex tips for young guys:

Or, if you have more time, her Young Turks interview is also pretty darn good:

Last night U2 performed the first U.S. date of it’s Innocence + Experience tour at SAP Center in San Jose. All four band members were present despite recent injuries sustained by both Bono and Edge. The sold out show took audience members on a walk down memory lane as the band revisited their roots. The innovative stage and lighting used gave the arena show an intimate feel, and engaged audience members in all sections of the venue. Photographs by Sugarwolf.

The 103rd annual Bay to Breakers 12K race was packed on Sunday despite the cold weather. With a starting point a few blocks from The Embarcadero, people dressed as bananas, Elvis and everything in between ran west through the city and finished at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto Ocean Beach.
