A bridge is the crux of art and engineering -- strong, durable, angular, and arching -- and the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge is a testament to this.

To celebrate the opening, Vessel Gallery unveils "The New Bay Bridge," featuring works surrounding the design of the bridges and the roadways they encompass by artists Christy Kovacs and John Ruszel.

Through photographs, sculpture, and paintings, the works highlight the social-cultural impacts and the planning behind bridges.

The exhibit's opening night party on Friday features a performance by Classical Revolution and Telegraph Trio and the following week is an artist talk on the series.

"The New Bay Bridge"

Where: Vessel Gallery (471 25th St., Oakland)

When: September 3-8, opening night party September 6, 6-9 p.m., artist talk September 14, 2-3:30 p.m.
