It's not uncommon in San Francisco for a handful of people to cram in a small apartment and split the expensive rent several ways. Today's SF Examiner even has an article titled, "New numbers show San Francisco has nation's highest rents."
Now consider this roommates: Why not take the rent money, perhaps add a few more roommates, and instead buy a ghost town?
But wait for it...
A ghost town with a liquor license, three cabins, and a nearby goldmine! Throw in the local bar known as the Gin Mill and you've got yourself a bargain.
Welcome to Seneca.
All 9.5 acres of this deserted paradise, also known as the "Woodstock of the West," could be yours for a mere $225,000 according to Craigslist.
Just picture it. Instead of assigning your roommates traditional chores like dishes, vacuuming and emptying the kitty litter, you could be the town sheriff, bailiff, cowboy, or saloon owner.
Okay, there are a couple drawbacks: it's 250 miles from San Francisco, so no late night burritos, and if the weather's bad, you may not be able to get to Seneca -- or leave it.
Imagine the epic rounds of beer pong to be had in your newly purchased, spacious town. This sounds like the makings of a great movie. Whether it's comedy or horror remains to be seen. Stay tuned.
