The Leftovers: "Solace for Tired Feet"

Justy gets laid - WIKIPEDIA
Wowee, it finally happened! Kevin got laid!

He and Nora did it, and though it was passionate it managed to provide some comic relief when they giggled together the next morning. The Guilty Remnant tried to stop the whole thing from happening once his ex-wife got wind of his new dalliance, but fuck those guys. I think we as viewers are supposed to care about them, to see them as some sort of anti-hero cabal, but I find them simply detestable. Anyway, it says something about this show that the most anticipated plot change for me was Justin Theroux finally having sex. Pick it up, HBO.

And while I'm on the subject of annoyances, let's bring up all the wandering stray dogs that roam through the town and get clipped off by the NRA poster boy. In high school when you read To Kill A Mockingbird, inevitably the teacher makes you deconstruct "the rabid dog scene," where a mangy cur zigzags down the street ominously until Atticus Fince blows it away. It is supposed to represent racism, give or take a few metaphors. So what do all these dogs represent in The Leftovers? Kevin is reticent to kill them, so Im thinking they are his wife and the rest of the Remnant. It's his job to take care of both the dogs and the cult, to protect the town, but both involve destroying innocents. All of which leads me to this conclusion: Who cares?
Please, HBO, get rid of Holy Wayne and the subplot with pregnant young girls and Kevin's son driving them all over creation. Now they are in Indiana, like that's supposed to be some sort of American hell-hole. Obviously they've never seen West Virginia. C'est la vie.
