Grab the kids honey, because DooF-a-Palooza '08 is coming! It's a fundraiser for DooF (food spelled backwards), a public TV food show that will begin airing in 2009 aimed at getting kids riled up about good food and turned off to prepackaged, preservative-heavy crap. Google Cafe 150 Executive Chef Mirit Cohen concocted the idea with DooF Executive Producer Mike Axinn, and likewise, the event is taking place at Google Headquarters (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View), with food and activities by Google's "cutting-edge culinary wizards," as well as other food "sourcerers" including Joey Altman, host of Bay Cafe on KRON, Kitchen on Fire, and Revolution Foods. Kids will get a look behind the scenes of the TV show by participating in a ton of activities with chefs, growers, and various food media personalities. Follow the jump for highlights from the day's line-up.
>Feed your brain as Kitchen on Fire demonstrates the science of food.
>Recall a favorite food story and tell us on film. The top storytellers will be invited to audition for the DooF TV show.
>Ignite the senses and meet the farmers of historic coastal farm Slide Ranch by feeling, tasting, and smelling herbs, lemons and other fresh farm products.
>Build-your-own fresh fruit jello station with the Palo Alto Creamery.
>Groove to live music by the Banana Slug String Band.
DooF-a-Palooza happens this Saturday, July 12, from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tickets run $20 for adults; $12 for kids 17 and under; free for kids five and under.
