Panini, Puffs, and Pralines: Our Humble Suggestions for Rec and Park's Street Food Quest

Last week, SFGate reported on an approved plan by the Recreation and Park Commission to open up 219 of the city's parks (excluding Golden Gate Park) to food vendors for a (minimum) fee of $1,000 per month, a figure that's prohibitively expensive for the majority of independent street-food purveyors. One intriguing nugget in the story was that Rec and Park officials planned to court established food businesses potentially interested in launching mobile outposts. But even those business are likely to find the monthly fees way too expensive to consider.

But let's imagine for just a brief moment that economics are not a factor, only gastronomics. With that approach, here are our suggestions for the Recreation and Park Commission of the places they should think about hitting up (we trust that if they need more, they'll ask).

Bernal Heights Park

Pressed panini from Avedano's (235 Cortland at Bonview) are just a stones-throw away, but it'd be so nice not to have to leave the hill for them.

Duboce Park

New vendor Hot Dog Alley could be just at home in this decidedly doggie-friendly park.

Grand View Park

A little known park with a rewarding panorama of sights, it'd be so refreshing to climb all those steep stairs to the top, only to be greeted by walk-away sundaes from Polly Ann Ice Cream (3138 Noriega at 38th Ave).

McLaren Park

Red velvet "Presidential" cupcakes and, of course, pecan pralines from Pralines By Yvonne (5128 Third St. at Revere) would ease the rough terrain.

Yerba Buena Gardens

C'mon, who's your Puff Daddy? The insane cream puffs of Beard Papa (845 Market at Powell) are a no-brainer.
